A. Purpose and Methodology

Since 1987, Campus Compact has conducted an annual member survey for the purpose of assessing community service and service-learning characteristics as well as identifying issue areas and trends. The results presented in this report come from a survey of Campus Compact members conducted in the fall of 2006 and represent data collected from the 2005/2006 academic year.

Campus Compact member institutions were asked to participate in the online annual membership survey from October 10, 2006 to December 15, 2006. Respondents were able to create a unique username and password so that they could log on and return to the survey as many times as needed over the data collection phase. A series of follow-up emails were sent to member institutions reminding them to complete the survey. State offices were also supplied with weekly updates for their states. Of the 1045 member institutions that were active during the previous academic year, 633 responded, which yielded a response rate of 60%. However, 53 respondents were removed from the analyses due to insufficient or incomplete data, resulting in a total of 580 respondents that were included in the final analyses, a response rate of 55.5%. This is higher than the 50% response rate achieved in 2004-05.
