Respondents were asked to provide information about the structure and administration of offices on campus dedicated to service-related activities. Of the 576 institutions that responded, 80% reported having an office/center dedicated to coordinating service, service-learning, and/or civic engagement activities and programs. This rate is lower than what was reported in previous years (86% in 2004-05 and 2003-04) and lower than the 83% reported in 2002-03.
One-third (31%) of institutions reported having more than one office coordinating service, service-learning, and/or civic engagement activities and programs. Of those institutions that reported having more than one office, the number of offices involved with service-related activities ranged from 1 to 20 additional offices, with an average of 3 offices. The majority of institutions (60%) indicated reporting to two offices that coordinated service-related activities.
The vast majority of institutions (85%) had at least one staff member who was specifically dedicated to coordinating service, service-learning, and/or civic engagement activities and programs. This is significantly higher than the 79% reported in 2004-05 and slightly higher than the 83% reported in 2003-04.
The highest level of education for the majority of directors of service-learning centers was a Master’s degree (55%), followed by a Ph.D. or equivalent (25%), and a Bachelor’s degree (18%). Only 2% of directors reported an Associate’s degree as the highest level of education.

The majority of institutions reported the total annual salary of the director to be between $40-59,999 (40%), followed by a salary between $25-39,999 (25%). Only 5% reported director salaries under $15,000, while only 7% reported salaries over $80,000.

As shown in Figure 12, the total annual budget ranged from less than $20,000 to more than $250,000. The majority of institutions reported an annual budget of less than $20,000 (42%), followed by a budget of $100,000 to less than $250,000 (20%). Only 11% of service offices reported having an annual budget of $50,000 to 99,999 or more than $250,000.
