I have had the unique opportunity of working professionally with Ange Cooksey and also watching her train members. She is a profound speaker/presenter and has well over 10 years experience with service-learning and campus community partnerships. At ICC, we have called on her expertise numerous times — most recently to pull together campus/community research and write our "Crossroads and Common Ground" publication. Her expertise areas include Criterion Five, institutionalization of service-learning and civic engagement, and campus/community reciprocal relationships.

Dr. Lynn is great at facilitating conversations around civic reflection and getting folks to think “outside of the box” as it comes to reflecting on the work we do. National Campus Compact brought her to the Network Directors’ Meeting in Austin, Texas, in January 2008. She and the Project on Civic Reflection have been a jewel to have in our state — they should be shared at the national level.

Jon is one of our NNE faculty consultants. He is one of the leaders using service-learning in Vermont and is becoming known nationally for his work and his students’ work on global climate change. He is an excellent teacher and facilitator. He won VCC’s Engaged Scholar award in 2007.

Randy has worked very closely as a commuity partner with Middlebury College and has much to offer around topics of service-learning, community partner development, global citizenship issues. He has been appointed Research Scholar in the Environmental Studies Program at Middlebury College. He could talk from the faculty viewpoint, as well as the community partner viewpoint; he is a strong advocate of community engagement in higher education.

J. Richard Kendrick, Jr.

Richard Kendrick (Ph.D., Syracuse University) is the founding director of SUNY Cortland’s Institute for Civic Engagement. He has held this position for the past five years, and he has been a service-learning practitioner since 1994. He oversees a program that includes service-learning, community outreach, and economic development initiatives. He has been successful at working with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to attract funding from local, state, and national funding sources (e.g., the MacDonald Foundation, New York Campus Compact, the Corporation for National and Community Service, and the U.S. Elections Assistance Commission). At the same time he has been successful at institutionalizing the college’s commitment to its civic mission. He has published on service-learning in the discipline of sociology, the effects of service-learning, and on student participation in the electoral process. SUNY Cortland is affiliated with New York Campus Compact and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities’ American Democracy Project, it is on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, and it recently obtained Carnegie Foundation recognition in its Community Engagement category.
