David Scobey

David is a national figure in the campus civic engagement world. As a faculty member, director, and board member of national organizations, he has extensive experience in building academic civic engagement programs, campus/community partnerships, and has fostered the role of the arts and humanities in public life. He is the chair of the National Advisory Board of Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life.

Craig was Dean for Academic Affairs during the six years that Bowdoin went from a Community Service Resource Center staffed by just one VISTA to an endowed, fully staffed Center for the Common Good. This first-hand experience offers him unique awareness and skills in sharing the obstacles and vehicles for significant institutional change. He also uses service learning in his return to teaching sociology.

Mary Ange Cooksey

I have had the unique opportunity of working professionally with Ange Cooksey and also watching her train members. She is a profound speaker/presenter and has well over 10 years experience with service-learning and campus community partnerships. At ICC, we have called on her expertise numerous times — most recently to pull together campus/community research and write our "Crossroads and Common Ground" publication. Her expertise areas include Criterion Five, institutionalization of service-learning and civic engagement, and campus/community reciprocal relationships.

Jon is one of our NNE faculty consultants. He is one of the leaders using service-learning in Vermont and is becoming known nationally for his work and his students’ work on global climate change. He is an excellent teacher and facilitator. He won VCC’s Engaged Scholar award in 2007.

I have served as an academic department head, faculty senate chair, president of a national disciplinary association, and for the last 9 years as a state policy leader addressing the institutional, political, and community policies and issues that promote and pose barriers to engaged academic programs and postsecondary institutions. I have authored publications, academic and public presentation, workshops and consultations on the topic. I was a member of the Campus Compact original Consulting Corp supporting this work. I am passionate about the need for students, faculty, and institutions to embrace a public agenda that serves public needs. I have worked with students, faculty, university administration, political leaders, and community/private sector leaders in advancing this cause.
