Connect2Complete Program

Campus Compact has funded nine community colleges in Florida, Ohio, and Washington to run Connect2Complete (C2C) pilot programs and funded the three related state Compact affiliates to support these pilots. These programs will engage more than 4,500 low-income students who are enrolled in developmental education courses and who experience significant barriers to obtaining postsecondary credentials. Through peer-to-peer advocacy and community engaged-learning opportunities, students will be supported in their goals of achieving academic success and credential completion and will be more engaged with their peers, the community college, and the broader community.

Demand for college-educated workers in four states (ME, MI, MN, and OH) will grow five to six times faster than demand for high school graduates or dropouts. Presidents Leadership Summit

Rural Alliance for Service Learning

The website for the Rural Alliance for Service Learning contains resources, including case studies, to encourage, enhance, and study the role of service learning in building a healthier and more vibrant rural America.

In conjunction with community partners, service-learning practitioners will strive to build upon the positive attributes of the rural culture while mitigating the negative factors. Rural Service Learning can involve studies, service, co-operative programs and projects, and policy development. In the process, students will develop their potential as future engaged citizens.

The Economic Impact of the Achievement Gap in America’s Schools

This 2009 report from McKinsey & Company’s Social Sector Office examines the impact of four gaps in education: between the US and other nations, between black and Latino students and white students, between students of different income levels, and between similar students schooled in different systems or regions. Existing gaps impose the economic equivalent of a permanent national recession substantially larger than the current one, in addition to serious consequences for individuals.

College Advising Corps

“The Massachusetts College Advising Corps was a collaborative program that hired recent college graduates to work as full-time college advisers in high schools across the state. The aim of the Corps was to increase college enrollment rates and prepare students for college success in both urban and rural areas of Massachusetts, helping to ensure that higher education is an attainable goal for all, regardless of socioeconomic status. The advisers provided one-to-one college application guidance to low-income and first-generation students while working with MACC member colleges to raise awareness and strengthen the college access pipeline.

The program was run in partnership with the Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University, and was part of a larger national effort to mobilize young, college-educated leaders to tackle the college admissions obstacles facing millions of teenagers across the country.
