CT Campus Compact VISTAs

Connecticut Campus Compact (CTCC) is a statewide consortium of 28 college and university presidents committed to developing the civic skills of students, building partnerships with the community and integrating civic engagement. CTCC’s work encompasses a broad range of activities designed to increase the effectiveness of those working to make higher education institutions vital agents of civic renewal. Our AmeriCorps VISTA program was developed in 2008 to address the local needs of low-income communities and to be a mechanism for community change. Through campus based placements, our AmeriCorps VISTA members build, support, and deepen partnerships between campuses and local organizations in two areas: 1) Education 2) Economic opportunity. These partnerships will strengthen the capacity of local organizations to alleviate poverty in low-income communities by leveraging the resources of higher education institutions.

It has been the training I received through Maine Campus Compact in both problem-based service-learning and civic engagement that has helped me become a passionate and effective advocate for tearing down the doors between campus and community."
