Illinois Campus Compact VISTA Leader

Illinois Campus Compact (ILCC) AmeriCorps*VISTA leaders will work out of the ILCC office in downtown Chicago to support ILCC VISTAs in their work at host campuses all over the state. VISTA leaders will also facilitate greater communication and evaluation of community partner needs and the clients they serve. ILCC AmeriCorps*VISTA members recruit college students and coordinate service opportunities that address the needs in the community, building mutually beneficial relationships between community-based organizations and campuses. The ILCC VISTA network will enhance the quality of service and service-learning programs by working with faculty and curricula and also encouraging increased involvement in the civic life of the community. The ILCC AmeriCorps*VISTA program is designed to engage VISTA members on college campuses to create, expand, and evaluate projects in order to directly influence students, support and build capacity in community organizations, and ultimately bring low-income individuals out of poverty. Focuses for the 2011-2012 year will include capacity building around veterans, military families, and education for low-income children and youth. VISTA leaders maintain regular contact with VISTAs, assisting with logistical needs and serving as their connection to Illinois Campus Compact and the VISTA program.
