Kentucky Campus Compact (KyCC) is currently seeking AmeriCorps VISTA members to begin service in August 2012. AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that provides opportunities for full-time volunteers to make tangible differences in the lives of 37 million Americans who live in poverty. VISTA members develop knowledge and skills to help those in disadvantaged circumstances turn their dreams into reality. Specifically, the KyCC VISTA members will work to fight poverty related to Economic Opportunity, Education, and/or Veterans and Military Families.
KyCC seeks individuals with these preferred skills and qualifications:
- A desire to make a positive difference in the lives of national service participants and low income communities
- Ability to work independently as a highly-motivated self-starter who is capable of meeting deadlines, handling stress, and working within a team-oriented environment
- Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate life experience
- Exceptional capacity to lead persons of diverse backgrounds and in diverse community and organizational settings
- Experience with Campus Compact programs, or higher education, adult education and training, volunteer management, events planning, and fundraising
- Willingness to live at the poverty level, while serving 40 hours per week for one year
Member responsibilities, support, and training:
- Attend Pre-Service Orientation before beginning service (required for all first-time members)
- Complete on-site orientation and training upon beginning service
- Electronically submit monthly progress report
- Fulfill responsibilities outlined in the site-specific Volunteer Assignment Description (VAD)
Member outreach and support:
- Attend in-service trainings facilitated by KyCC Executive Director and AmeriCorps VISTA Leader
- Build internal capacity for Kentucky Campus Compact and VISTA host sites through development and delivery of educational resources
- Develop and maintain a service portfolio, documenting learning and project accomplishments
