Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1200 college and university presidents who are committed to fulfilling the civic purposes of higher education. Campus Compact envisions colleges and universities as vital agents and architects of a diverse democracy, committed to educating students for responsible citizenship in ways that both deepen their education and improve the quality of community life. The objective of the National Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader is to support the Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA network across the country through communication, collaboration, and resource sharing.
Key Goals
- Support VISTA Program Supervisors, VISTA Leaders and Campus Compact VISTA Alumni networks
- Share promising practices among state VISTA programs
- Promote the work of the Campus Compact VISTA program
- Assist national Campus Compact efforts and initiatives
Position Responsibilities
VISTA program support
- Support a peer-to-peer network of VISTA program supervisors and VISTA leaders to share resources, best practice and advice through conference calls, a listserv and social media
- Explore and develop opportunities for professional development for VISTA leaders and program supervisors (such as convening VISTA Leaders and Program Supervisors at regional Campus Compact conferences)
- Other responsibilities that may arise that would further contribute to the support of the VISTA network
Economic development and civic engagement
- Research the ties among economic development, civic engagement and poverty alleviation
- Participate in the 2012 Campus Compact Presidents’ Leadership Summit (PLS) on Economic Development and Civic Engagement, meet institution leaders, and gain 1st hand knowledge to share with VISTA programs
- Aid in the development and preparation for the 2012 PLS
- Coordinate with Campus Compact VISTA programs geared towards promoting economic opportunity
Social media
- Manage and grow Campus Compact’s current and alumni VISTA presence on all social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc
- Manage and grow national Campus Compact’s presence on all social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler, Pinterest, etc
- Support VISTA Leaders and Program Managers with social media requests and provide information and feedback on their efforts
- Research and develop a Campus Compact VISTA and VISTA alumni blog
Communication
- Publish a Campus Compact VISTA and VISTA alumni newsletter to foster communication and a sense of collective impact and identity
- Identify and produce stories regarding the Campus Compact VISTA program’s positive impact on communities and promote those stories through various communication vehicles
Qualifications
- Experience with Campus Compact VISTA programs
- At least one year of experience as an AmeriCorps*VISTA or an AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in person and through social media
- Asset-based approach to change
- Experience coordinating working groups with multiple stakeholders
- Strong organizational, project and multi-task management, public speaking, and event planning skills
- Willingness to be a creative self-starter on projects and ideas
- College Degree Associates, B.A., or B.S.
AmeriCorps*VISTA Benefits
- Annual living allowance of $15,948 (Monthly stipend of $1,329)
- Post service educational award of $5,500
