Rhode Island Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader

RI Campus Compact (RICC) AmeriCorps*VISTAs are full-time AmeriCorps members who address the pressing issues facing low-income communities throughout the state with placements at institutions of higher education and core urban schools/district offices. RICC AmeriCorps*VISTAs will help higher education institutions align resources and build effective community partnerships in order to better respond to pressing issues facing low-income communities. In their capacity, RICC AmeriCorps*VISTAs will directly impact local communities by increasing the number of students serving and resources going into local communities to meet identified needs. Through their unique placements, RICC AmeriCorps*VISTA members build relationships with community-based organizations and connect them with campus resources such as student volunteers, faculty teaching service-learning courses and community Federal Work Study programs. All VISTA members will attend common trainings focused on issues of civic education, access to higher education and professional development as well as collaborate on some common projects among host sites.

Member Duties: Applicants must have completed at least one year of VISTA service. The primary goal of the RICC*VISTA Leader will be to build the capacity of the RICC AmeriCorps*VISTA program. This includes being responsible for communication, training, event planning, member support and problem-solving, reporting, resource development, recruitment, evaluation, and other duties to enhance the impact of the RICC*VISTA program and the experience of its VISTA members. A second goal of the leader will be to further the mission of Campus Compact. This includes supporting organization projects such as Partnerships for Success, the RI College Access Network, RI Student Service Summit, Faculty Fellows, and others through research, event planning, and resource development. The final goal of the RICC*VISTA Leader will be to support and build the national service network in RI through collaboration with other AmeriCorps and VISTA projects. The position is a one-year full-time commitment beginning in July 2012.
