South Carolina Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA Summer Associates

With an over-arching goal to fight poverty and its effects, South Carolina Campus Compact’s VISTA Project will create and sustain programs to empower college students to meet community needs. We want to empower South Carolina college students to engage in poverty-reducing activities in local communities across our state. Our Summer Associates will build on existing and emerging campus-community partnerships to continue mutually beneficial collaboration in the years to come. Campuses recruiting are Benedict College, Claflin University, Clemson University, Midlands Technical College, The Citadel, University of South Carolina, University of South Carolina Beaufort and Winthrop University. Summer Associate VISTA members’ activities will include: 1. Academic and enrichment activities that prevent summer learning loss at community partner sites located at or serving Title I schools 2. Developing and implementing resource development activities to meet specific needs identified by Title I & Veterans and Military Families programs that improves the program’s ability to meet local needs 3. Implementing a common evaluation model compliant with IRB (International Research Board) that measure the SAs actual impact on those individuals served through the activities completed.

Member Duties: Summer Associates will support children and families served by Title I eligible community programs and schools to increase partnership opportunities, prevent summer reading loss, support USDA Summer Feeding Programs and support services for Veterans and Military Families. Summer Associates will work with their campus VISTA, service learning and civic engagement teams.
