Best Practices in Service Learning Publication

Location: Kentucky Campus Compact
Expires: 2011-02-18
Contact: Gayle Hilleke
Email Address: hillekeg1 [a] nku.edu

Kentucky Campus Compact is undertaking an ambitious publication project to feature Kentucky’s “Best Practices in Service Learning.”  Dr. Fred Rhodes, VP of Student Affairs at Bellarmine University has volunteered to head up the project, and Judy Clabes, journalist and retired editor of The Kentucky Post, will provide support.  We hope to have the publication ready for distribution at the November 2011 Kentucky Engagement Conference and hope to distribute it widely to schools and libraries around Kentucky and to key national venues. It will also be downloadable on-line. We believe it will be a model for others — and will highlight the important work of Kentucky Campus Compact members.
The first — and very important step — is to have your input.  Thank you to those of you who sent submissions prior to the holidays. We would like to have additional models, so we are extending the deadline for submissions to Friday, February 18, 2011. Attached is a brief form we are asking you to return to us before year’s end. Your campus may send multiple forms. We want your suggestions for the best examples of service learning at your institution. Give us your ideas for good stories we can tell, model examples we can hold up for others. Once we have your suggestions, we can move to the next step — planning the publication and gathering the information we need for the stories that will be featured. Please return the form to Gayle Hilleke (hillekeg1 {at} nku(.)edu) with a copy to Judy Clabes (judy {at} judithclabes(.)com) as soon as possible.  We will look forward to hearing from you.

I want to thank Washington Campus Compact for working so hard throughout our state to support and expand service learning. Just in the last three years, you've helped to mobilize over 20,000 college and university students to serve in their communities."

-U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)
