The Florida Health Literacy Initiative, sponsored by Florida Blue and managed by the Florida Literacy Coalition, provides training, resources, and funding to assist Florida ESOL and family literacy programs in integrating health education into their instruction. The objective is to help students develop basic literacy and English language skills while gaining information to make informed choices regarding their health and nutrition. Program services must be delivered via classes, small groups, or one-to-one tutoring. Seventeen grants of $5,000 each will be provided in 2013. Applicants must be nonprofit or government-based organizations providing adult ESOL and/or family literacy instruction in Florida. Visit the program’s website to download the application guidelines and forms.
