General Job Description:
The ACT Alternative Break Program Coordinator works to strengthen and expand ACT’s Alternative Break programs, including both domestic and international efforts (principally, the Alternative Spring Break program – ASB). The ACT Alternative Break Program Coordinator manages the recruitment, selection, and training of all student Peer Leaders, and faculty & staff Learning Partners. The ACT Alternative Break Program Coordinator works collaboratively with many offices and academic departments, in particular the Office of International Education and Development (OIED) and is responsible for ensuring the safety & risk management protocol for all programs. This staff member will also be responsible for developing and coordinating budgets for both the domestic and international programs including processing payments and tracking expenses. The Alternative Break Coordinator will informally teach student development and program planning principles to student leaders, graduate assistants, and interns. The Alternative Break Coordinator will plan and facilitate the fall and spring ASB leadership retreats and ongoing training programs. Additionally, this staff member will help supervise and coordinate the educational efforts of one Graduate Assistant. This position will also hold oversight of two ACT major events, and partial oversight of other major events as needed.
The ACT Alternative Break Coordinator is a full-time position which reports to the ACT Assistant Director for Community Service, and is housed in the Department of Student Programs within the Division of Student Development. This is a masters-level position, with a degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field required. Occasional evening and weekend work expected as part of a flexible work schedule. Preferred qualifications include international travel, group coordinating experience, advising/leading students, as well as a demonstrated commitment to service.
