Assistant Director – Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning

Hobart and William Smith Colleges - Geneva, NY

SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director will support the CCESL’ mission through the coordination of co-curricular community service and civic engagement opportunities for HWS students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage “Compass”, the student leadership development program for community engagement.
  • Assist Associate Director with program development, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Assist with maintaining and building community partner relationships.

Major program responsibilities include:

  • America Reads and America Counts, federally funded programs that match college students with local elementary school aged children to support their literacy skills, and middle school aged children to support their math acquisition skills: tutor recruitment and training, program-partner relationships, budget oversight and management.
  • Alternative Spring Break: student recruitment and preparation; student leader selection and training; chaperone one trip and select/advise chaperones for the remaining sites.
  • Provide administrative support and leadership for service-oriented student clubs and organizations, include student theme house.
  • Annual events including the First Year Service Orientation, Community Barn Sale, The Holiday Gift Project and American Red Cross blood drives.
  • Coordination of “Engaged Citizenship speakers Series: with Associate Director.
  • SUPERVISOR: Associate Director, CCESL

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have earned a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and have public service leadership experience. Applicants must possess superb oral and written communication skills and have the ability to work with people in diverse settings. Individuals who have a strong record of civic involvement and leadership, as well as demonstrating initiative, urgency, planning, and organization, will be given priority in the selection process.

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefits-eligible administrative position. Normal office hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year and a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours 12-week time period.
