The University of Washington Bothell, which is expanding its enrollment toward 6,000 students, is currently seeking to hire an Assistant Director for CBLR (Community-Based Learning and Research) in order to deepen and expand its community-based work as part of the University’s 21st Century Campus Initiative. Building on seven years of momentum the Assistant Director, along with a newly hired Director will have the opportunity to shape new and exciting directions for the CBLR program in collaboration with community partners, faculty, staff, students, and administration.
Community-Based Learning and Research, an academic learning experience combining service with structured preparation and reflection opportunities, holds as its mission the advancement of mutually beneficial relationships between the university and the extra-campus community. The campus envisions that all persons will be civically and collaboratively engaged and educated for local and global equity, stewardship, and justice.
The Assistant Director reports to the Director of CBLR and is primarily responsible for identifying, developing, and sustaining community and organizational partnerships in support of the CBLR program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Partnership development
• Identify, develop, and sustain community partnerships for CBLR projects and courses. Research community-identified needs and cultivate projects for potential UWB involvement.
• Support faculty by identifying community and organizational partners and facilitating equitable and socially just campus-community partnerships.
• Provide oversight of the Civic Fellows program.
Support to CBLR projects and courses
• Coordinate placement of students enrolled in CBLR courses in community partner organizations and provide general oversight of partnership process.
• Work with Director of CBLR and other faculty and staff to facilitate assessment of CBLR efforts.
• Organize and provide leadership for events such as the Community Partner/Volunteer Fair and the Community Partner Luncheon.
Administrative support to program
• Provide supervision of student workers, graduate assistants, and AmeriCorps personnel.
• Provide support for digital media CBLR efforts. Identify and communicate with appropriate community partners.
• Develop, integrate, and maintain the use of a community-based learning database.
• Expand and update the CBLR website to reflect current efforts and include vital information for faculty, community partners and students.
• Participate in program design and implementation and strategic planning efforts.

Requirements:
Master’s degree in Arts, Sciences, Education, or equivalent.
Two years’ experience coordinating volunteers in non-profit agencies, educational settings, or internships for private sector companies.
A demonstrated commitment to civic engagement and social justice efforts.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
Three to five years’ experience working with community-based learning in higher education settings; experience working across two or more sectors of community-based work.
Condition of Employment:
A satisfactory outcome from criminal background verification is required prior to hire.
