Kansas Campus Compact - Manhattan, KS

Kansas Campus Compact invites applications for the full-time, unclassified, grant-funded, 12-month term position of Assistant Director for Service Programs.

Kansas Campus Compact (KsCC) is a state-wide membership organization for institutions of higher education that builds and strengthens the collective commitment and capacity of those who teach, study at, work with, and lead Kansas colleges and universities to integrate a commitment to civic engagement and responsibility into the higher educational learning environment.  KsCC is housed within Kansas State University’s School of Leadership Studies in Manhattan, KS.

The duties of the position entail program management for an 80-person statewide AmeriCorps program, Serve 2 Succeed Corps.  The Serve 2 Succeed (S2S) Corps mobilizes upper-level college students throughout Kansas to serve as peer mentors and community service facilitators for first-year college students in order to increase student retention rates.  As Assistant Director, this person will be responsible for management and oversight of the grant program, promoting participation in the program by campuses and students, training and supporting campus liaisons, training students in the obligations of AmeriCorps participation and best practices for peer mentoring and co-curricular service-learning, and requirements to AmeriCorps and the Kansas Volunteer Commission for the grant, and publicizing outcomes.  The individual will also serve as the project coordinator for the Commemorate Kansas/Serve Kansas mini-grant program designed to promote service-learning activities across Kansas higher education in conjunction with Kansas Day 2011.  This position reports to the Executive Director of KsCC and is grant-funded through July 31, 2012.

We seek an individual who is committed to service-learning, mentoring, and higher education student retention and who wishes to work in a collaborative and progressive environment with a small and dedicated staff alongside innovative faculty members in fostering a lifetime service ethic among college students.  The ideal candidate excels in a fast-paced, multi-task environment and possesses an ability to take initiative and project enthusiasm for community service and service-learning.  We value qualified candidates who can bring to our program a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Required qualifications include:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business administration, non-profit management, education, public relations, or a closely related field;
  2. Minimum two years of general office experience;
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  4. Experience with mentoring or facilitating mentoring of high school or college age individuals;
  5. Experience with grant reporting and accountability, especially with grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service or other federal grants;
  6. Computer skills sufficient to manage and expand online training and grant management system, including proficiency in Microsoft Office products and comfort with social media platforms; and
  7. Ability to travel on a limited basis (10-15 days per year).

Applicants with experience working with or serving in AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps*VISTA, Senior Corps, or other national service programs will be given additional preference.

The salary for this position is set by terms of the grant at $30,000 plus benefits.

Applicants should provide the search committee with a complete resume, a letter discussing relevant experiences and accomplishments and contact information for two individuals who can speak to the applicant’s qualifications.  Review of applications will begin on June 22, 2011, and will continue until the position is filled.  Effective starting date of this appointment is August 1, 2011.
