Assistant Director for Student and Community Engagement

Capital University - Columbus, OH

This position provides a unique opportunity to blend leadership and service theory and practice through civic engagement. The Assistant Director for Student and Community Engagement provides oversight for a community service program and enhanced campus wide leadership development. The Assistant Director will have responsibility for major campus events and a marketing plan to enhance student engagement. Additionally, this individual Assistant Director shares responsibility for orientation/transition programs, night and weekend programming, and student involvement.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

*Advise and provide oversight for all community engagement programs.
*Create strong relationships with students and community partners to create and implement programs that increase student’s awareness of local community needs.
*Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate an established America Reads Program at Capital working directly with community site supervisors.
*Establish and implement a community engagement assessment plan.
*Assist with the development and implementation a campus wide leadership development program.
*Assist with the development and facilitation of faculty development workshops to increase curriculum-based service learning initiatives.
*Provide support for orientation, night and weekend program, and marketing of student and community engagement programs.

Qualifications:

*Master’s degree required in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Educational Administration.
*Two to four years related experience and/or training in community engagement, community service learning initiatives in a college environment.
*One to two years of related experience in developing and implementing a leadership program.
*Demonstrated skill in working with assessment, social media, and web based applications.
*Demonstrated experience functioning in a team based environment with shared responsibilities.
*Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills.
*Must be available for evening and weekend responsibilities.
