The Haas Center’s mission is to inspire Stanford University to realize a just and sustainable world through service, scholarship, and community partnerships. The Haas Center for Public Service is a unit of the Division of Student Affairs. The activities of the Haas Center and other Student Affairs Divisions traverse both academic and non-academic areas, providing programs and services focused on student development, intellectual engagement, diversity and multiculturalism, and community and responsibility, among others.

Job Responsibilities:
Community-Campus Partnership Development (45%)
Responsible for developing Haas Center’s capacity to facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships that identify and address education, environment, and health problems in measurable ways.
(1) Deepen the overall responsiveness to community inquiry, and the level of engagement of local community partners in existing Haas Center programs. Provide guidance to supervisor on long-term strategy regarding community-campus partnerships and alignment with the Haas Center mission, values, and strategic plan.
(2) Identify and catalogue existing community and campus assets focused on addressing issues related to environment, education, and health. Coordinate Community Partner database efforts.
(3) Develop signature partnerships that meet identified interests in local, national, and/or global communities, focusing on education, the environment, and health.
(4) Develop and implement professional development with and for community partners, including co-facilitated workshops, funding proposals, conference presentations, publicity, etc.
(5) In collaboration with supervisor, consult with faculty on Engaged Scholarships partnerships (i.e., developing, implementing and sustaining service-learning and community-based research collaborations).
(6) Collaborate with other campus (including Haas Center) professionals to sustain partnerships, foster professional development on relevant issues, etc. In particular, serve as a liaison with colleagues in Student Affairs (e.g., cultural community centers) to cultivate and sustain common partnerships.
(7) Represent Haas Center at community events, especially those with signature and new partners.
(8) Coordinate continuous improvement, evaluation, and assessment of partnerships and academic connections that facilitate student development of the civic leadership competencies along pathways of public service as defined by the Haas Center, as well as defined community outcomes;
Engaged Scholarship Administration (45%)
In collaboration with the Associate Director for Engaged Scholarship, other staff in the Engaged Scholarship Division, and key colleagues across campus, s/he will intentionally and thoughtfully cultivate high quality community-engaged scholarship practices at Stanford.
(1) Manage administration of service-learning course development grants, including advertising, coordination of proposal review, financial monitoring and reporting.
(2) Participate in assessment and evaluation processes, including collecting and compiling faculty course reports and student course feedback.
(3) Maintain updated lists of service-Learning (SL) designated courses, including outreach to faculty, and compilation and dissemination of lists to registrar’s office and student services staff across campus.
(4) Assist with the administration of the Roland Prize, including advertising, nomination review, reference solicitation, and other related tasks.
(5) Assist with Engaged Scholarship events (workshops, community meetings, etc.) including logistics, promotion and evaluation.
(6) Respond to internal and external requests for information and other resources, including working with External Relations team to keep print and web materials updated, and to develop stewardship reports and newsletters.
(7) Collaborate with campus colleagues responsible for engaged scholarship programming in departments, schools and centers (i.e. Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity; Office of Community Health; Graduate School of Business, John Gardner Center, etc.). Convene quarterly meetings of this group.
(8) Collaborate with supervisor and the Administration team to manage financial resources, including the process of budget development, planning, monitoring and reconciliation.
Haas Center-wide and Divisional Responsibilities (10%)
Other general staff responsibilities designed to maintain and enhance the infrastructure and community of the Haas Center. This includes active participation in core functions and activities of the Center: staff meetings and retreats; professional development sessions; university, division and center-wide committees/task forces and staff/award selection committees; center-wide celebration events, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree and/or bachelors degree with scholarly and professional accomplishments in a relevant field, indicating an ability to work as a peer with campus and community partners.
- Demonstrated effectiveness cultivating and sustaining community partnerships;
- Demonstrated interest and understanding of principles and practices of ethical and effective public service, including service-learning, in the context of higher education institutions.
- Strong organizational skills, with experience developing, implementing and evaluating programs; planning events, administering nomination/RFP processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality written materials and engage in public speaking with range of constituencies including faculty, staff, students, community partners, and donors.
- Strong independent judgment and interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to problem-solve and experience working with diverse populations.
- Experience and demonstrated capacity working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated experience in addressing issues of diversity and multiculturalism and in building community among different groups in university and/or community settings.
- Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple assignments and activities under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Strong computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office applications and database management software, and facility in using technology in program delivery.
