Description: The Office of Student Leadership & Service at Emory University seeks an Assistant Director who demonstrates a personal commitment to and a passion for service work, social justice education, and student leadership development. Candidates must have strong organizational skills; ability to work within diverse group setting; and flexibility with varied work situations.

The role of the Assistant Director is to manage all aspects of the Volunteer Emory (VE) program, providing the Emory students with service opportunities that promote learning about self and society. Additionally, this role will continue to help connect the value of leadership education in service endeavors, and the importance of service in the work of leadership. This position reports to the Associate Director, Office of Student Leadership & Service.

•                 Supervise the VE- Fellow (a bachelor level, 20 hour per week para-professional position) and 20+ student staff members, including two co-directors

•                 Educate and empower student staff to manage, plan, and coordinate weekly service trips and major service days.

•                 Design and implement relevant student leadership and logistical trainings as well as appreciation programs and initiatives to celebrate the work of VE staff and other servant leaders

•                 Work with OSLS staff and Volunteer Emory staff to offer student leader trainings related to social justice education, planning/coordinating service events, working with agency partners, etc…

•                 Advise Emory community members in service project organization tasks and processes including service-related student organizations when possible.

•                 Liaise between Emory University and its (potential or current) service-related agency partners

•                 Manage the VE agency partner database

•                 Supervise website development, including maintenance and design

•                 Draft and manage an annual budget

•                 Initiate and manage intentional, strategic partnerships within and outside of the Emory community, including Emory’s Office of University and Community Partnerships and the Volunteer Council which manages requests for specific non-Volunteer Emory service projects.

•                 Coordinate all VE programs, including: weekly service trips; alternative break trips; service days; publications; volunteer fairs, and donation drives

•                 Assist as needed with co-sponsored initiatives around campus such as Careers for the Common Good and Quilt on the Quad

•                 Utilize program assessments to add, adapt or discontinue programs

•                 Conduct strategic and long-range planning for Volunteer Emory’s programs and activities

•                 Develop internal and external public relations strategies

•                 Assist with managing and signing student organization contracts.

•                 Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, or related field and one-four years of related experience managing volunteer student staff in a higher education setting.
