Job Summary:
The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies seeks to fill one core candidate Assistant Professor (full-time) position beginning July 1, 2011. The Interdisciplinary Studies (INTD) major enables undergraduates to complete individually-designed programs drawing upon resources from throughout the undergraduate college, as well as a set of INTD foundational and capstone courses. Given the recently completed academic plan (see http://www.naropa.edu/academicaffairs/documents/AcademicPlan-v3.pdf), the university seeks a faculty member with an understanding of interdisciplinary and an ability to contribute coursework in an additional area of the liberal arts (e.g., cultural studies, history, media studies, political science).
Job Duties:
Faculty responsibilities include:
• Departmental and university service
• Teaching
• Curriculum development and assessment of the B.A. degree
• Teaching opportunities in other degree programs are possible
• Service as a program coordinator for the INTD major may be included in this appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with the potential to integrate contemplative and academic modes of inquiry at the undergraduate level, mentor students and assist with the creation of individual programs of study, and conduct program assessment. Candidates must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, a collaborative style, and capacity to teach a diverse student body representing many faith traditions. Ph.D. strongly preferred (master’s degree holders/ABD status may be considered).
