CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The City University of New York will launch a major new University-wide initiative called the CUNY Service Corps in the fall of 2013. The Service Corps will build on CUNY’s legacy of service in New York City and on the programs currently in place offering experiential and service-learning, community service, and internship opportunities for students. Service Corps projects will be focused on meeting the City’s most pressing needs in four thematic areas: community and public health; built and green infrastructures; the education of children and adults; and economic development. Service Corps projects will help support participating students’ success in college and preparation for the workplace by making meaningful links between projects and college coursework and majors, fostering structured reflection among participants, and offering students valuable work experience and exposure to real-world careers. Student projects will be during the academic year in community organizations, schools, government agencies, and working on research and planning efforts with individual CUNY faculty members.
To promote community-engaged knowledge, leadership, service, academic success and workplace readiness, the CUNY Service Corps program will use New York City as a context for learning with opportunities for students to gain experience and develop skills in leadership, civic engagement and advocacy. This spring, the University is identifying service projects and allied business and community partner organizations and sponsor sites, along with participating colleges and students. All members of the CUNY Service Corps will participate in the program’s initial co-curricular model development, launch, implementation and future expansion, as well as foster and manage partnerships between the University, its colleges and external organizations.

The Associate Director will develop the central office infrastructure, implement administrative procedures and manage daily operations. Reporting to the University Director of the CUNY Service Corps, the Associate Director will actively participate in the planning process to develop and implement the foundational components of the CUNY Service Corps program. The seven foci of the planning process include: the program’s co-curricular model; engaging external partners and sponsors and identifying sites; identifying participating colleges, defining their responsibilities and evaluating performance against standards; recruiting, interviewing and selecting students; training and supporting students; managing data analysis and assessment; and overseeing technology needs.
Other duties include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Establish program quality and performance standards of participating colleges, organizations and students and conduct site visits.
- Assess program design and implementation and develop recommendations addressing emerging challenges for on-going development.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff and external constituents to evaluate and refine program components.
