The Adler School of Professional Psychology is the oldest independent school of psychology in North America. With campuses in Chicago and Vancouver, the Adler School is committed to continuing the work of Alfred Adler, the first community psychologist, by making social responsibility its primary focus and the driving force in all its curricula and initiatives. A distinctive feature of the Adler program, all first-year students at the School must complete a community service requirement. The current structure involves a community service practicum, though as the School expands, different delivery formats will need to be developed and implemented. Community service projects are non-clinical experiences meant to expose future practitioners to concepts of social justice and social change, and to instill in them the ethos and the skill set necessary to engage in socially responsible practice.
