The University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) seeks an Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Outreach (AVC/HR EOO). Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, this newly created position is the senior human resource and equal opportunity officer on campus and is responsible for overall management for strategic planning and delivery of human resource and equal opportunity programs and services to the staff, faculty, and students. The AVC/HR EOO also works with the University of Massachusetts System office and other campuses on human resource and equal opportunity matters pertaining to University of Massachusetts Lowell and the System.
UMass Lowell enrolls more than 14,000 resident and commuter students of all backgrounds who pursue bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees as well as professional certificates in the arts, humanities and sciences; education; engineering; health and environment; and management. The University of Massachusetts Lowell is ranked by U.S. News and World Report in the top 200 research universities.
UMass Lowell has elevated the chief human resource role to be a key member of the University’s senior administration. The AVC/HR EOO will oversee: workforce diversity planning and management; employment, training, and development; compensation, classification and benefits; labor and employee relations; and payroll. The Office of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Outreach will advocate for and provide superior, innovative, and responsive services and benefits to attract, motivate, and retain a talented, diverse, and committed workforce.
UMass Lowell is seeking a strong leader with a substantial and demonstrated record of success in leading strategic and operational human resources and equal opportunity functions in a complex and decentralized environment. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the design, implementation, management, and review of human resource and equal opportunity functions; experience leading change; demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion; experience in collectively bargained environments; and high energy, passion, and a strong sense of commitment to a mission driven institution. A B.A. or B.S. is required and advanced degree strongly preferred with a minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible human resource and equal opportunity experience.
