Founded in 1967 by students, the Cal Corps Public Service Center at UC
Berkeley <http://publicservice.berkeley.edu/>  connects people, ideas, and
resources to act for social justice, build healthy communities, and foster
life-long commitments to public service. A professional staff team of 10
and150 student leaders, partners with the community,  faculty and other
campus units to create and support meaningful social change opportunities
for over 5000 Cal students as volunteers, and through jobs, internships
and courses.  The Center also provides resources for leadership
skill-building, civic engagement, public service, service-learning, and
community development. Cal Corps is one of three Centers that report to
the Dean of Students within Student Affairs, along with the Center for
Student Leadership, and the Center for Student Conduct and Community
Standards.

The Internship Programs Coordinator provides leadership for three
internship programs: Cal in the Capital, Cal in Local Government, and
Magnolia Project.  The Coordinator supervises and advises 9 Student
Directors who serve in part-time AmeriCorps positions, who are responsible
for high-quality intern recruitment and selection, academic course
development, partnerships with host sites, alumni development,
fundraising, and budget management.

Cal in the Capital is a 46-year old internship program that supports 60+
UC Berkeley students in obtaining summer internships in Washington, DC.
The Coordinator collaborates with staff at the UC Washington Center and
within Residential and Student Service Programs to offer summer
co-curricular learning.  Cal in Local Government connects students and
community organizations through project-based internships in local
government offices in Berkeley, Oakland and other East Bay locations. The
Coordinator works closely with staff from the City of Berkeley and UC
Berkeley’s Office of Government and Community Relations.  Magnolia
Project, formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, embodies the
Center’s 10-year commitment to working in solidarity with Gulf Coast
communities, particularly the city of New Orleans. Magnolia Project
consists of three distinct initiatives: a 3-week summer service trip; an
8-week summer community-based research internship program; and a
semester-long exchange program with the University of New Orleans.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of related experience and/or a
Masters Degree in a related field (community development, community
organizing, social services, student affairs, higher education, or other).
Bachelor’s degree required in a related area and/or equivalent
experience/training.  Other required knowledge and skills include the
ability to articulate and put into practice student development theories,
leadership and management theories, supervision and coaching theories,
community development and service-learning theory, ethical development and
