CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The City University of New York will launch a major new University-wide initiative called the CUNY Service Corps in the fall of 2013. The Service Corps will build on CUNY’s legacy of service in New York City and on the programs currently in place offering experiential and service-learning, community service, and internship opportunities for students. Service Corps projects will be focused on meeting the City’s most pressing needs in four thematic areas: community and public health; built and green infrastructures; the education of children and adults; and economic development.  Service Corps projects will help support participating students’ success in college and preparation for the workplace by making meaningful links between projects and college coursework and majors, fostering structured reflection among participants, and offering students valuable work experience and exposure to real-world careers. Student projects will be during the academic year in community organizations, schools, government agencies, and working on research and planning efforts with individual CUNY faculty members.

To promote community-engaged knowledge, leadership, service, academic success and workplace readiness, the CUNY Service Corps program will use New York City as a context for learning with opportunities for students to gain work experience and develop skills in leadership, civic engagement and advocacy. This spring, the University is identifying service projects and allied partner organizations and sponsor sites, along with participating colleges and students. All members of the CUNY Service Corps will participate in the program’s initial co-curricular model development, launch, implementation and future expansion, as well as enhance partnerships between the University, its colleges and external organizations.

The City University of New York seeks an entrepreneurial and dynamic professional to serve as the Partnership Development and Engagement Specialist of the CUNY Service Corps to develop a portfolio of student enrichment opportunities and identify New York City community partners from a range of business sectors who can provide relevant workplace learning opportunities for students in accord with the program’s tenets. The Partnership Development and Engagement Specialist will help establish and maintain partner relationships with New York City business and community organizations to offer student leadership development, experiential and service learning opportunities.

Reporting to the University Director of the CUNY Service Corps, the Partnership Development and Engagement Specialist will also manage a centralized business and community outreach campaign to garner organizational interest and solidify participation. Other duties include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Develop and implement various job, experiential and service learning opportunities for students.
  • Work with business and community organizations to identify and procure student opportunities.
  • Develop and implement targeted marketing strategies to promote business and community interest and participation in the CUNY Service Corps program.
  • Engage in external outreach activities with business and community organizations, and serve as a liaison and information conduit to foster and maintain productive and responsive relations.
  • Connect students, faculty and staff with relevant learning opportunities and organizations, and advise them on setting consistent goals and communications for each engagement.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of current and prospective partners and their project themes.
  • Work directly with participating organizations to manage engagements and oversee student activities.
  • Evaluate the needs, experiences and contributions of partner organizations to address their concerns and recommend program revisions for ongoing effectiveness and goal attainment.
  • Conduct placement site visits to assess and ensure the quality and consistency of program delivery.
