The University of New Hampshire invites applications for the position of Dean and Director of the UNH Manchester campus with duties commencing July 2012. UNH Manchester is one of the seven schools and colleges of the University of New Hampshire. It is the university’s non-residential urban campus with 900 undergraduate and 200 continuing education students in a variety of baccalaureate and associates degree programs. The campus also houses professional graduate degree programs of the university’s Graduate School, enrolling 350-400 students. With an exemplary professional staff and a faculty dedicated to excellence in teaching and scholarship, UNH Manchester has a distinctive urban mission that emphasizes service learning and community engagement.
The Dean at UNH Manchester is the chief academic and administrative officer, promoting academic and support programs of the highest quality, directing all outreach and community engagement initiatives, and serving as spokesperson for the college and university, especially to businesses and community organizations in the greater Manchester area. The Dean is responsible for all aspects of the undergraduate college and for oversight of the operations of the graduate programs, which requires close working relationships with the home departments on the Durham campus.
The Dean manages and develops the College’s fiscal resources in a decentralized budgeting environment and participates with other university Deans in governance, strategic planning, institutional assessment and fundraising. The Dean reports to the university Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is a member of the Provost’s Council. The Dean is responsible for oversight of all university activities in the greater Manchester area, management of the campus facility in Manchester, and promotion of the expansion of UNH Manchester and its campus.
The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in his/her field, with a record of excellence in scholarship, teaching, administration, and fundraising, preferably at an urban, commuter campus. The position requires demonstrated success in higher education leadership roles at the level of department chair or higher, and a strong commitment to the values and mission of an urban public institution in a community with diverse populations. The successful candidate will have a track record in fostering collaboration and innovation and will bring to the job an understanding of the important issues and trends in higher education.
