Job Summary

The University of Denver invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of The Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning. The oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain region, the University of Denver is a doctoral/research university of approximately 12,000 students in the undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.

The Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning supports the University’s goal of being ‘a great private University dedicated to the public good.’ The Center is responsible for comprehensive and wide-ranging academic and community initiatives and programs that build on the strengths of faculty, community partners, and students in the Denver area and beyond.

Responsibilities:

-Advocating for community-based learning within the University
-Establishing strategic external and community partnerships
-Developing and implementing a strategic vision for faculty community-based learning and research.
-Chair and provide overall vision and management of Service Learning and Public Good faculty committees
-Provide ongoing consultation and support for service learning and public good faculty members
-Implement a wide variety of faculty development programs including the Service Learning Scholars program, the Community-Based Learning Writing Group and Service Learning pods.
-Recruit potential faculty members for community-based learning and public good teaching and scholarship
-Manage a highly-skilled professional staff
-Oversee Public Good and Service Learning faculty development funds as well as the general operating budget of the Center
-Conduct assessment, evaluation and yearly reports of the Center’s academic and co-curricular programs.
-Cultivate, strengthen and nurture strategic campus and community partnerships, including partnering with Student Life around volunteer opportunities for students
-Teach 1-2 classes each academic year as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications

-Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated success in the acquisition of external grants and funds in support of service learning and community engagement.

-Ability to foster strong ties to the local community is also preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: These qualifications refer to education and/or experience.

-Ph.D. or earned doctorate

- Several years of experience with community-based service learning and research.

- Several years administrative experience, preference in college setting.

- Successful record in grant writing and fundraising.

Required Qualifications
These qualifications are mandatory in order to perform the functions of the job (i.e. valid driver’s license, certifications.)

- Ability to provide strong leadership and vision.

- Demonstrated excellence in teaching. Demonstrated ability to work with students.

- Demonstrated success in academic and community program initiatives.

- Ability to work collaboratively with academic deans, chairs, faculty, professional staff, community members, and students.
