GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Director of Artward Bound is responsible for leading this MassArt program that works to prepare low- income Boston area students academically and artistically for acceptance to and success in an art college. Through the school year and a six-week summer component, students receive academic and artistic support and participate in college preparation and career development workshops, and personal growth activities. This is a grant funded position.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Director of Youth Programs
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises the assistant director/academic coordinator, case worker, and teachers.
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversee program and curriculum development and implementation including design, delivery and evaluation of all activities in accordance with program goals. Ensure program compliance with program plans and granting agency requirements.
2. Hire, supervise and evaluate program staff.
3. Oversee student recruitment.
4. Meet, advise, and maintain communication with and support for Artward Bound students and parents/guardians/caregivers to maximize success and student retention. This will include regular school visits and the planning and hosting of evening events.
5. Maintain communication with Artward Bound internal Core Team and external Advisory Board through regular meetings and updates to ensure engagement with program and build resources and support internally and externally. Ensure cross-college communication and information to build support internally at MassArt.
6. Establish, maintain and expand partnerships with community agencies, programs and schools to build networks, resources and opportunities for program students.
7. Manage fiscal details of Artward Bound according to program specifications, approved budget, and grantors’ requirements.
8. Assist with fundraising, including donor visits and grantwriting, and fulfillment of grant reporting requirements for funders.
9. Oversee meetings and other activities for students and families at times outside of the 9-5 work day.
10. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
1.Bachelor’s Degree in education, art education, guidance and counseling, social work, or related field.
2. Demonstrated supervisory and budgeting experience.
5. Demonstrated knowledge or appreciation of the visual arts.
6. Experience and enjoyment working with high school aged youth.
7. Strong organizational and management skills.
8. Strong communication, problem solving, and advocacy skills.
9. Demonstrated experience and comfort in working with diverse socioeconomic and cultural groups.
10. Successful grant writing experience.
11. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
12. Ability to travel to Boston schools.
13. Proficiency with a full range of office computer applications and functions required.
Preferred Qualifications:
1.Master’s Degree in education, guidance and counseling, social work or related field.
2.Educational and/or professional experience in the visual arts.
3.Experience working with a TRIO program.
4.Experience working with the academic needs of first-generation college students from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds.
5.Particular knowledge of current practice in contemporary and/or community arts.
6. 3 to 5 years supervisory experience.
7. Experience in school-based / cultural organization collaborations recommended.
