Disability Services Coordinator

UNH Manchester, the university’s urban, commuter campus is currently recruiting for the position of Disability Services Coordinator. UNH Manchester is committed to providing students with disabilities with a learning experience which assures them of equal access to all programs and facilities of the University, which makes all reasonable academic aids and adjustments for their disabilities and provides them with maximum independence and the full range of participation in all areas of life at UNH Manchester.

This position will be responsible for all aspects of services for students with disabilities:

  • Review and evaluate documentation of disability to determine eligibility for services;
  • Develop recommendations and coordinate appropriate academic aids, adjustments and accommodations in consultation with faculty and other departments;
  • Prepare an annual report of services and activities;
  • Serve on committees as assigned.

This position requires a minimum of a Master’s degree in counseling, education, special education or related student service area and two years experience in student services at the post-secondary level, or related experience. The successful candidate must also have the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.

Knowledge:

  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, including changes made by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008
  • Specific disabilities protected under these laws in the college environment and the common ways in which they may affect a student’s ability to learn
  • Support services and accommodation strategies at the post-secondary level.

Skills:

  • Strong creative problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills;
  • MS Office skills;
  • Organization skills and attention to detail.

Ability To:

  • Be diplomatic and sensitive;
  • Work effectively in a fast paced, team-oriented environment;
  • Create rapport and work with college students using the communication and organizational tools they use; and
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations before small, medium and large groups.

Previous Experience:

  • In a one-on-one college student support role with demonstrated success rates;
  • Interpret and apply Federal Regulation 504 and the Americans with Disability Act;
  • Review and evaluate documentation of disability to determine eligibility for services;
  • Coordinate accommodations for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level;
  • Educate faculty and staff on disability services and their responsibility to individuals with disabilities;
  • Work closely with faculty and staff to find creative solutions to enhance accessibility of programs and facilities;
  • Work with college students with diagnoses on the Autism Spectrum;
  • Train others to use assistive technology programs, devices, and tools; and
  • Use of software application specifically developed for a higher institution, preferably Banner.

This position reports to the Director of Academic Counseling.

At 50% time, this position will work a total of 20 hours per week. These 20 hours will be within Monday-Thursday 8:30am-6pm and Friday 8:30am-5pm, with flexibility available within the office. Occasional evening hours are required. Hourly rate is not to exceed $17.00-19.23
