The Office of Community Health in the School of Medicine develops and supports a range of community-engaged courses and fellowships for undergraduates and medical students. The Educational Programs Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring the smooth functioning of each of these programs, as well as integration across programs to optimize overall impact for both students and community partners. While the position will be supervised by the Director of Educational Programs, it will also involve direct reporting and collaboration with individual course directors, the OCH Executive Director, and other members of the OCH team.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Under the guidance of OCH-affiliated course and program director(s):

  • Coordinate course activities, including planning class logistics, organizing small group discussions, scheduling guest presenters, collecting and managing readings and other course materials, tracking student assignments.
  • Update and refine learning objectives and course assignments.
  • Develop and maintain a list of existing and potential course guest speakers.
  • Organize information and skill-building workshops related to course activities and various public health topics.
  • Coordinate OCH Fellowships application and selection process.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a plan to streamline materials, speakers and other resources across courses and fellowships.
  • Track and document course/fellowship community-engagement activities (i.e., projects and service hours).
  • Coordinate outreach and communications efforts to community partners linked with courses and fellowships.
  • Plan community partner meetings/summits as needed to facilitate cross-partner learning and optimize overall impact of OCH community engagement.
  • Develop evaluation plan and coordinate evaluation activities for OCH educational programs, courses, and community partnerships.
  • Plan and implement MPH advising and informational sessions and facilitate MPH Dual Degree application process.
  • Actively contribute to the planning and implementation of OCH events, including the annual Community Health Symposium, Board meetings, and community partner summits.
  • Collaborate and actively contribute to OCH dissemination, outreach, and communication efforts (publications, presentations, newsletters, website, annual reports, funding reports, etc.).

Knowledge and experience

Required:

  • Minimum three to five years of educational programming, community-based service, and/or public health related experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, public health education, human development or other social science/social services field.
  • Demonstrated superior communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated superior command of the English language with demonstrated excellence in writing, editing and proofreading.
  • Established orientation to service, with proven ability to work successfully with a diverse population.
  • Strong organization, time management and prioritization skills, with a high degree of independence, initiative and follow through.
  • Excellent attention to detail and advanced demonstrated skills with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Desired:

  • Five years of related experience.
  • Graduate-level training in Public Health or related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience working in medical education or other education/ training program.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with local Bay Area communities highly desired.
