BASIC FUNCTION: Connecticut Campus Compact is a coalition of Connecticut college and university presidents committed to promoting the civic mission and purpose of higher education. CTCC member campuses seek to involve students, faculty, and entire campus communities in meaningful service in order to fulfill higher education’s most noble goals of educating citizens, preparing tomorrow’s leaders and contributing to the life of communities across the globe. CTCC supports the integration of community service into the academic and co-curricular cultures of its member campuses by sponsoring faculty and professional development, facilitating collaborations and networking opportunities, connecting members with capacity-building resources, engaging in advocacy, and raising public awareness.

The Executive Director will be the primary administrator for the organization and the essential link to the national network.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL NEEDED:  

  • Knowledge of service learning literature as it relates to higher education theory and practice.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills are requires, as well as exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.

EDUCATION:   Master’s Degree 

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in higher education or non-profit sector, specifically with respect to service learning and commitment to community service and civic engagement. 
  • Successful track record in fund-raising and grant writing.
  • Success in developing partnerships, alliances, and collaborative initiatives 

REPORTS TO:  Associate Director, Center for Faith and Public Life and Service Learning

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Articulate, uphold, and model the vision and mission of the public purposes of education and mobilize Connecticut’s educational community to explore its capacity to partner with the community;
  • Facilitate networking among member campuses;  
  • Convene meetings of the Board of Directors (2x per year), Member Presidents (1x per year), Service Learning and Community Service professionals, students, and other campus-community constituencies;
  • Develop and secure funding from public/private sources to support the advancement of campus-community engagement;
  • Manage grants, including developing guidelines and disseminating procedures for Requests for Proposals, write reports, collect data, and disseminate outcomes regionally and nationally;
  • Oversee the AmeriCorps*VISTA program, attend supervisor training, provide support to host campuses, and expand opportunities for professional development for CT Campus Compact VISTAs
  • Promote the organization through news media, CTCC newsletters, reports, member campus publications, electronic listserves, and websites; 
  • Foster growth of the organization through increased membership and connection to other state, regional and national organizations. 
  • Maintain all aspects of membership services, including recruitment materials and a membership directory. 
  • Supervise and provide leadership to one part-time staff person.
  • Provide general leadership for the organization
  • Serve as a liaison to the Campus Compact national office
  • Some travel required
  • Promotes safe and secure working conditions. This involves:
    • promoting the proper utilization of equipment, tools, and materials
    • notifying supervisor immediately regarding any unsafe working conditions
