Position Summary
The Center for Student Activities, Leadership and Services (CSALS) at New York University (NYU) seeks a dynamic Executive Director to lead this center and build on the accomplishments of a Division of Student Affairs which has been recognized by the NASPA organization for 16 Excellence awards over the past 5 years. The Executive Director serves as the leader and visionary in fostering civic and student engagement within NYU, leveraging the existing resources of both New York City and the Global Network University; NYC’s Greenwich Village neighborhood; and the talents and commitment of an engaged and diverse student community. NYU offers a host of unique student experiences — from its service-based Alternative Breaks program to the Civic Team and beyond — with endless possibilities to effectuate change for the University community.
The Executive Director will:
- Provide CSALS’ strategic direction;
- Provide subject-matter expertise and strategic consultation to student and University stakeholders on legal and policy issues related to student governance, student activities, and student travel;
- Determine all office-wide performance and measurement standards, deployment of human and physical resources, and development and evaluation of policies and procedures regarding student clubs and student engagement;
- Create and manage the University’s ‘Student Culture Message’ for all internal and external communications;
- Assist with “internationalizing” the main Washington Square campus;
- Collaborate with schools, the Provost’s Office, and Global Network University (GNU) portal campuses/study away locations;
- Handling Risk Management and Insurance issues;
- Conduct issues with student clubs and organizations;
- Enacting the Center’s philosophy statement in their daily interactions with others;
- Direct oversight for the advisement and management of 450 student clubs and organizations, Fraternities and sororities, WNYU radio station, WSN student newspaper operations, all student service opportunities, Program Board, and advising the University Student Government structure; and
- Direct the development of training programs, resources and organizational talent.
Successful candidates will possess a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or student personnel (doctorate preferred) and 7-10 years’ progressively responsible experience in student development and engagement, student activities and student governance, leadership development and training, budget management and staff supervision, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to speak multiple languages, preferred.
Successful candidates will also have excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills; the ability to effectively negotiate resolution to problems and to collaborate with all levels of staff and students; knowledge of legal and insurance provisions for outside agents; and in depth knowledge of student culture and student rights policies.

Required Experience
7-10 years’ progressively responsible experience in student development and engagement, student activities and student governance, leadership development and training, budget management and staff supervision, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
