FASS VISTA HERO Coordinator

The Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida invites applications for the position of FASS VISTA HERO Coordinator.

The Burnett Honors College combines the intimacy of a small liberal arts college with the benefits of a large, research university located in a metropolitan environment. The mission of the College is to provide the University of Central Florida’s most academically talented and motivated students with a challenging and unique scholarly experience, creating a strong foundation for future achievements. The College strives to create a diverse learning community that fosters the pursuit of excellence, ethical, social, and civic responsibility, personal growth, and a passion for life-long learning.

Through the Honors Symposium, the Junior Achievement Partnership, and the Honors Educational Reach Out (HERO) opportunities, the number of students who are interested in, excited about, and involved in civic engagement activities at The Burnett Honors College has grown tremendously over the past five years. These opportunities provide students with a chance to contribute to their community, to take what they have learned in the classroom and the knowledge that they have acquired from their college experience and apply it for a greater good. Being civically engaged affords students the chance to serve as leaders and mentors, communicate their shared interests and passions, and collaborate to change the way that future generations think about their livelihood.

The FASS VISTA member will work to promote and expand the current offerings of the Burnett Honors College. The FASS VISTA member will:
•Recruit and retain students for all HERO programs
•Work closely with the Honors Symposium Service-Learning and Team Leader Programs
•Place, train, and monitor students in HERO service programs
•Develop new collaborations with community partners
•Assist with grant writing and fundraising activities to support new programs
•Serve as a liaison between students and community partners
•Make contacts with local media and plan to promote service projects and raise community awareness of program initiatives
•Assist in the development of multimedia presentations for orientation, training sessions, and recognition events.

Please submit a letter of application, resume, and three references to The Burnett Honors College Office of Research and Civic Engagement, University of Central Florida, hero {at} mail.ucf(.)edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

[Campus Compact's] student symposia have been very valuable to our student leaders. These conferences have been a great way to network with other schools and share ideas."
