Position Description:
The Field Coordinator for LifeWorks at Mars Hill College serves primarily as the liaison between the College’s service/social justice initiatives and the wider community. Working closely with other LifeWorks staff, the Field Coordinator will plan, manage, and evaluate the service work of individual students and organizations, campus programs, and leadership development opportunities.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree preferred, Bachelors degree required, with at least 2 years experience in service-learning at the college level. The ideal candidate will possess a clearly defined philosophy of and commitment to social justice and civic engagement; very strong oral and written communication skills; a creative, energetic and team-based approach to work; and the ability to successfully balance multiple projects simultaneously.
Specific Position Responsibilities:
• Make regular site visits to service-learning placement sites, establish relationships with the persons responsible for volunteer coordination and site supervision at service-learning sites
• Work with community partners to develop clear job descriptions, protocols, and assessment and evaluation procedures for students engaged in service-learning
• Work with community partners in designing appropriate student development service models at their agencies, encouraging increased responsibility and capacity-building as students serve over multiple semesters
• Coordinate activities for national and campus service days: First Year Day of Caring; MLK Day of Service; Hunger Week; etc…
• Help coordinate and implement fall and spring alternative break trips
• Work with student leaders in implementing weekend and other short-term service-learning projects
• Advise and mentor individual students and student groups interested in pursuing international service-learning opportunities
• Facilitate community partner participation on the Advisory Board for LifeWorks
• Collaborate with LifeWorks staff in event planning, scholar advising, and leadership meeting facilitation
• Participate in Bonner Scholar retreats and service exchanges
• Other duties as designated by Supervisor
