HECUA’s Environmental Sustainability program is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated assistant to help lead an interdisciplinary immersion program for undergraduates on environmental sustainability.
The Instructor will coordinate program logistics, attend seminars, lead selected class sessions, serve as the administrative assistant to the Program Director, recruit students at member campuses, and share in fostering a learning environment that is holistic, interdisciplinary and academically rigorous.
The ideal candidate will see this as an opportunity to gain valuable experience in higher education teaching and program administration within an organization dedicated to community-based learning and social change.

Qualifications:
Required: BA/BS in area related to environmental program themes; significant knowledge in program content areas (environmental issues – science or policy background); excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills, and attention to accuracy.
Strongly preferred: Teaching or organizing experience. Coursework in a master’s program in environmental or social sciences; knowledge of or background in experiential learning, the engaged classroom, applied theory; engagement in community/social change work. Experience with qualitative research methods and conducting research related to citizen empowerment and social movements.
Terms:
The position is 32 hours per week from August 1 to December 24, 2012 (compensation will also be provided for attendance at HECUA’s biennial staff retreat from July 16 to July 20, 2012). The position is annually renewable based on performance. Compensation based on education and experience: $2,200 – $2,425 per month (total salary of $11,000 – $12,125 for the 32 hour/week, 5-month position.
