AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader
Position Description 2009-2010
Become a change agent in higher education. Work with Kansas Campus Compact to connect colleges with communities, engage students in civic learning, and help solve society’s most pressing needs.
Activities
IMPORTANT: Applicants must have successfully completed a prior term of service as an AmeriCorps*VISTA Member or Peace Corps Volunteer to be considered for the VISTA Leader position. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a term as an AmeriCorps*VISTA Member serving with a Campus Compact or other higher education organization.
During this year of service the KSCC AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader will support Kansas Campus Compact and host sites in their efforts to publicize VISTA successes, and build public awareness of poverty in Kansas; coordinate the creation of a Civic Engagement Impact Survey to be conducted at all VISTA host-sites; assist with planning and conducting on-site orientation and training for new members and provide members with weekly guidance and attention; and help develop effectiveness and esprit de corps among individuals serving in the Kansas Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA Program.
Program
The Kansas Campus Compact AmeriCorps*VISTA program helps colleges and universities to better respond to pressing issues facing their communities by improving the quality of campus-community partnerships, civic engagement initiatives, and service to low-income populations.
The KSCC AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader is based from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. The 2009-2010 VISTA Leader will support VISTA Members who may be located at Butler Community College (El Dorado), Fort Hays State University (Hays), Kansas State University (Manhattan), Southwestern College (Winfield), and University of Kansas (Lawrence).

Kansas Campus Compact encourages civic discourse and debate and assists higher education institutions in the creation of partnerships with the community.

- Living allowance, paid biweekly ($475 every two weeks)
- Education Award of $4,725 or End-of-Service Stipend of $1,200 upon completion of full term of service

Requirements
- Associates’ or Bachelors’ Degree
- Ability to make a full-year commitment
- Interest and experience in community service projects
- Ability to work with wide ranges of people ’“ college staff, students, professors, nonprofit employees, community members
- Some or all of these skills: Communications, Community Organization, Writing/Editing, Public Speaking, Event Planning, Multi-Tasking, Conflict Resolution
