Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL)
SUMMARY:
The Program Coordinator will support CCESL’s missions through the coordination of co-curricular community service and civic engagement opportunities for HWS students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the Bonner Leader program, supporting 9-10 AmeriCorps eligible Bonner Leaders who each dedicate 200-300 hours to specific campus and community outreach endeavors.
- Coordinate America Reads and America Counts, federally funded programs that matches college students with local elementary school aged children to support their literacy skills, and middle school aged children to support their math acquisition skills. Responsibilities include recruiting and training 80 tutors each semester, managing program partner relationships in the three school districts, and overseeing $63,750 student salary budget.
- Coordinate the Alternative Spring Break Program: oversee details of three ASB sites (North Carolina, Virginia, and Nicaragua) via student recruitment and preparations, select student leaders, chaperone one trip and select/advise chaperones for the remaining sites.
- Responsible for the coordination of the First-year orientation service program.
- Collaborate with AmeriCorps VISTA on the advisement of the Community Service House, a theme house with 18 residents who are responsible for 45 hours of community service each semester.
- Collaborate with Associate Director on “Engaged Citizenship” Speakers Series (2 community/service leaders per semester).
- Provide administrative support and leadership for: service?oriented student clubs and organizations, including Roteract, Hugs Across America, Habitat for Humanity, and Geneva Heroes
- Coordinate annual events including the Community Barn Sale and The Holiday Gift Project and two blood drives.
- Assist Associate Director with all details related to Compass Management and program promotion.
Other Duties as commensurate with experience:
- Help to identify, recruit, and maintain relationships with community partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will have earned a bachelor\’s degree in a related field and have public service leadership experience. Applicants must possess superb oral and written communication skills and work with people in diverse settings. Individuals, who have a strong record of community service involvement and leadership, as well as demonstrating initiative, urgency, planning, and organization, will be given priority in the selection process. Teacher certification or related experience and a commitment to liberal arts education are strongly preferred.
OTHER INFORMATION:
- This is a full-time, 12-month, 37.5 hours per week, benefits-eligible administrative position. This position description is not all-inclusive, as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.
