Simpson College, a selective liberal arts college affiliated with The United Methodist Church, seeks applications and nominations for the position of Service Coordinator/Assistant Chaplain; a newly created position for the College. It is a 12 month, full-time position which reports to both the Director of the Center for Vocation and Integrative Learning (CVIL) and the Chaplain.
The Service Coordinator principal duties and responsibilities will include: developing service-learning programs; coordinate, and track student service-learning participation, including the Wesley Service Scholar program. Plan and manage alternative spring break trips. Have an integral role in the planning of large campus events such as 1st year service day and MLK Day. Act as collaborator between CVIL, chapel and Simpson Urban Studies Institute (SUSI) programs.
Duties and responsibilities as Assistant Chaplain will include: participation in worship, Bible study, and focus groups of the Religious Life Community (RLC), pastoral presence in consultation with the Chaplain and facilitating the Pre-Ministry Program.
The successful candidate will hold a Bachelors’ degree in Religion, Social Sciences or Education; a Masters in Divinity, Social Work or Education preferred. Knowledge of service-learning is helpful; must have demonstrable effectiveness in managing such programs. Have an inviting and supportive personality; the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff; an openness to and appreciation of a variety of theological and religious beliefs; effective oral and written communication skills; strong listening; and a commitment to helping students find their place in a faith community and their vocation.
