Presented by Minnesota and Iowa Campus Compacts
The increasing population growth of racial and ethnic communities and linguistic groups, each with its own cultural traits and health profiles, presents a challenge to addressing critical health issues in this country. By understanding, valuing, and incorporating the cultural differences of America’s diverse population and examining one’s own health-related values and beliefs, we can implement and support a system that responds appropriately to, and directly serves the unique needs of populations whose cultures may be different from the prevailing culture (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Minority Health).
Join this pertinent discussion on successful practices for addressing health issues among refugees, recent immigrants, and under-educated adults. During this webinar participants will:
* discover strategies for and the importance of building trusting relationships with immigrant/refugee communities;
* discuss how to leverage successful partnerships with higher education partners to create a school based clinic;
* explore encountered stigmas about health and how they are overcome; and
* learn about challenges and failures that have led to effective solutions in addressing health concerns
