What is RSS?
RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and it is a means for more easily distributing information. Often called a “news feed”, it is a simple list of new articles that you can get to quickly and easily without having to click through a web site. When a new article is added to this web site, the RSS news feed is updated automatically, and the news is delivered instantly to subscribers.
Currently, Campus Compact offers a several independent news feeds. The News has its own feed, there is one for each of the various resources sections, and there are several for the opportunities available on the web site. Look for the RSS Icon:
where the feeds are available. RSS news feeds are provided free of charge.
When a user subscribes to a news feed, a news reader is required. Firefox has the capability built-in, though it may call it a “live bookmark.” Safari also has the feature built-in. Other RSS readers are stand-alone software applications like NetNewsWire on the Macintosh, or RSSOwl on Windows.
