In partnership with AmeriCorps, the Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA Program seeks to activate higher education institutions and their partners to work together to make an impact on poverty in their local community.

How it works

The Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA Program places AmeriCorps members for year-long terms of service at colleges and universities and with their community partners. The AmeriCorps members build capacity for their host sites, working behind-the-scenes to expand and improve programs that impact low-income people on college campuses and in communities—helping to fulfill the public purposes of higher education and lift individuals and communities out of poverty.

Campus Compact leads program administration, grant compliance and reporting, and member training and support—making it possible for campuses and their partners to host AmeriCorps members without extra administrative burden.

Together, Campus Compact VISTA members form a national cohort of AmeriCorps members that work on projects supporting low-income college students, k-12 students, and community members through projects focused on education, food security, basic needs, housing, veterans & military families, environmental stewardship, college access and success, workforce development, and more. In their year of service, Compact VISTA members engage in activities such as resource development, volunteer recruitment, landscape analysis, research, curriculum development, program evaluation and assessment, systems development and implementation, and partnership building. This leads to increased capacity for programs across the country addressing food security, college access and success, housing and other basic needs, workforce development, financial literacy, environmental education, student veteran support, and more.
