State Campus Compact Awards

State Compact affiliates offer a wide range of awards recognizing students, faculty, staff, and partnerships. Contact the individual state affiliate to learn more about any of these programs.

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration

Initially created by the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia State University to recognize and mobilize exemplary partnerships in Georgia, The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Partnership Award for Campus-Community Collaboration expanded into four additional states in 2004-05. Massachusetts, Minnesota and Montana Campus Compacts hosted their inaugural Carter Partnership Award programs in 2004 and Michigan hosted theirs in 2005. In 2008, to celebrate its 15th Anniversary, Illinois Campus Compact presented the Carter Partnership Award.

Vermont Campus Compact Engaged Community Partner Award

This award is given to one community partner (individual or organization) per VCC member campus that has worked to support the civic mission of their partnering campus. Community partners are vital links for engaging campuses and students with communities to meet critical needs. This award is intended to recognize a community partner’s involvement with the campus community.

Vermont Campus Compact Campus/Community Partnership Award

This award is intended to recognize one exceptional partnership between a campus and (a) community partner(s). This is a collaboration that works together in mutually beneficial ways to produce measurable improvements in people’s lives and enhance learning in the process. Campus/Community partnerships have the capacity to model creative, deep, and sustaining approaches to community problem-solving, and this award is intended to highlight an exemplary established partnership that has enriched the outcomes for both campus and community.

Faculty

2009 David Hoch Memorial Award for Excellence in Service

Application Deadline: Friday, March 20, 2009 to Ohio Campus Compact.

Awarded annually to one faculty or staff member from an OCC member school.

This award, named for the late David Hoch, Dean of Honors at the University of Toledo and Director of Service-Learning, honors the outstanding work in service-learning and/or civic engagement by a faculty or staff member at an Ohio Campus Compact member institution.

California Campus Compact Richard E. Cone Award for Excellence & Leadership in Cultivating Community Partnerships in Higher Education

This is awarded to an individual who has made significant contributions to the development of partnerships between institutions of higher education and communities surrounding the campus. To be eligible for the award, potential candidates must be nominated by a colleague and be employees of a California Campus Compact member institution.

Indiana Campus Compact Hiltunen Faculty Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Scholarship of Engagement

Indiana Campus Compact developed the Faculty Fellows and the Scholarship of Engagement Programs that support faculty in their endeavors to recommit to service and thereby become connected to the community.

Maine Campus Compact Donald Harward Faculty Award for Service-Learning Excellence

Maine Campus Compact recognizes up to three faculty members who have made public service an integral part of their teaching. Recipients use service-learning and/or community action as an innovative teaching tool to engage students in civic learning. Recipients also show clear evidence of reflection, community benefit and reciprocity with community partners and demonstrate a commitment to advocating for service-learning and/or community action on campus and beyond.

Michigan Campus Compact Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award

Michigan Campus Compact annually recognizes outstanding community service and service-learning by faculty and staff of our members. The Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award is given to one person from each campus who engages or influences students to be involved in community service or service-learning through modeling, influence, or instruction. This is an exciting and prestigious honor; to be recognized for your important work.

Minnesota Campus Compact Sister Pat Kowalski Leadership Award

Every two years, beginning in 2000, one individual from each of four major sectors of higher education in Minnesota is recognized by Minnesota Campus Compact for their exemplary leadership in advancing service-learning and civic engagement.

North Carolina Campus Compact Robert L. Sigmon Service-Learning Award

This award, named in honor of Robert Sigmon, a native North Carolinian and pioneer in the service-learning field, is to be presented annually during the NCCC PACE Conference in recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions toward furthering the practice of service-learning. The selection criterion specifically includes significant service-learning experience, community and student impact and institutional impact.

Vermont Campus Compact Engaged Scholar Award

This award honors one faculty member for making community engagement as an integral part of his/her teaching and research. This award recognizes an innovative use of service in scholarship, commitment to communities, and work with engaged campus-community partnerships. Through his/her leadership, the recipient has made valuable contributions to the field of engaged scholarship and serves as an exemplar of faculty citizenship to students, faculty, and staff.

Vermont Campus Compact Award for Excellence in Community-Based Teaching

This award is given to one faculty member who has made public service an integral part of their teaching. This award recognizes innovative teaching methods through the use of service-learning or community-based research, a commitment to student voice and development, and inclusion of community voice and partnership. One of the letters of nomination must come from a student.

Students

2009 Charles J. Ping Student Award

Application Deadline: Friday, March 20, 2009 to Ohio Campus Compact.

The Charles J. Ping Student Award is open to all Ohio Campus Compact member institutions. This award is designed to recognize and honor undergraduate students for their outstanding leadership and contribution to community service OR service-learning on their campus and within their community.

Four Ping Award winners are selected to a receive a $500 Honorarium to the community partner of their choice due to the generosity of State Farm Insurance.

Florida Campus Compact “Excellence In Service” Award

The Excellence In Service Award of $1000 is given annually to three student volunteers for outstanding service to Florida’s communities.

Indiana Campus Compact Wood Student Community Commitment Award

The Richard J. Wood Student Community Commitment Award recognizes students at Indiana Campus Compact member campuses who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community service. Each President or Chancellor may nominate one outstanding student each year based on their record of community service, development of leadership and advocacy skills, and determination to build long-term community relationships that positively impact community problems.

Maine Campus Compact Student Heart and Soul Awards

Maine Campus Compact recognizes up to six undergraduate students who have been actively involved in turning their campuses and communities into places of democracy. These students have raised their voices on issues of local and global importance through civic engagement efforts. Recipients have a wide variety of experiences in any of the following areas: service, service-learning, activism, or political involvement. This could be through efforts ranging from direct service to holding public forums to running voter registration drives. Recipients also demonstrate leadership through their successful involvement of others in their innovative approaches to social, educational, environmental, health, economic and/or legal issues facing their communities.

Michigan Campus Compact Outstanding Student Awards

In order to recognize students at MCC member institutions who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to service throughout their educational career, all are invited to nominate students for MCC’s Outstanding Student Service Awards.

New York Campus Compact Charter Scholar Award

Recognizes college students from across New York state for their leadership through service.

North Carolina Campus Compact Community Impact Student Award

Each year at its Fall student conference, NC Campus Compact presents this award to students from member campuses who have made significant, innovative contributions to campus-based efforts to address community needs. Each campus can select one person for this award.

Pennsylvania Campus Compact Student Community Service Awards

Each year at its Fall conference the Pennsylvania Campus Compact recognizes students for their outstanding work in the community. Students are nominated by their college or university based on the type and amount of service in which they have engaged. Each of these students must have contributed extraordinary talent and time to their respective campuses and communities.

Vermont Campus Compact Commitment to Service Award

This award is given to one student per VCC member campus for both the breadth and depth of her/his community involvement. For example, recipients may have devoted multiple years to one program or demonstrated their engagement by committing their leadership both to their institution and to community organizations. Each campus may select one student for this award.

Vermont Campus Compact Madeleine M. Kunin Public Service Award

This award distinguishes one remarkable student from a VCC member institution for his/her outstanding public service and leadership, demonstrated through a spectrum of efforts. Through their sustained involvement, the recipient establishes a linkage of their service to a larger social context and a commitment to community impact. The recipient of this award models deeply ingrained civic responsibility and leadership, evidenced by initiative, innovative approaches to community issues, and effective community building.

Staff

Community Service Director Award: Honoring Those Who Facilitate and Inspire Service Learning To Create The Campus and Community Connection. This is the second year for the Community Service Director Award, which will be given annually to recognize staff at Indiana Campus Compact member campuses that are exemplars of the campus and community connection.

Michigan Campus Compact Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award

Michigan Campus Compact annually recognizes outstanding community service and service-learning by faculty and staff of our members. The Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award is given to one person from each campus who engages or influences students to be involved in community service or service-learning through modeling, influence, or instruction. This award recognizes a staff person at a North Carolina Campus Compact member campus that has worked towards the institutionalization of service, created and strived towards a vision of service on their campus, supported faculty and students, and formed innovative campus-community partnerships. The award is to be presented annually during the NCCC PACE Conference.

Vermont Campus Compact Campus Leadership for Civic Engagement Award

This award recognizes one staff, faculty, or administrator on a VCC member campus for their leadership in advancing public engagement as a critical component of their higher education institution. The award recognizes someone who has worked towards the institutionalization of service, strived toward a shared vision of higher education as a public good, supported faculty and students, and formed innovative partnerships.
