As a student who inspires her peers and as an accomplished environmental scientist, Whittier College sophomore Amanda Edwards is making Earth a healthier planet. Examples of her leadership on campus include founding an organic, sustainable community garden and working to acquire stainless steel water bottles for every student. These initiatives have already been recognized with a Student Life Community Service Award. Amanda has transformed her personal interests into academic passion, conducting ecological field research on dung beetles in eastern Kenya that already has been presented at two undergraduate research conferences.

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way.
