Recognized with the Heart and Soul award for his more than 400 volunteer hours of effort within the community over the past two years, Chris Ciavattone, a second-year student at Schoolcraft College, leads by example. Much of Chris’ community efforts are dedicated to alleviating hunger. He has spent time working with Gleaners Food Bank, volunteering at Cass Community Social Services and regularly spends his Saturdays preparing meals at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen in Detroit. His familiarity with this cause helped Chris to identify a growing issue on campus and he went on to establish our school’s first student food pantry. Now Chris is the manager of a self-sustaining food resource for students and their families on campus.
