Ethan Butler, a University of Connecticut junior, utilizes technology to address environmental and human rights issues locally and globally. Ethan is a chemical engineering major who is researching the efficacy of water purification systems. As president of UConn’s Engineers Without Borders (EWB), Ethan is engaged with projects that improve disadvantaged communities world-wide. EWB has collaborated with residents, government officials, NGO leaders and funders to build a permanent road in Nicaragua and a water filtration project in Ethiopia. Ethan also participates in multiple campus coalitions which seek to address campus and community environmental problems and coordinate student service activities.
