Kathryn McCann, Providence College, RI

While Kathryn’s community engagement has taken many forms throughout her college experience, it has all focused on “relationship building with purpose.”  The driving force behind her advocacy work, organizing campaigns, and community-based research is a commitment to relationships.  Kathryn’s dedication to relationship-building service is based in the value which her hard-working Irish Catholic family raised her to uphold–the belief that Christ is in all people, most especially in the oppressed and downtrodden.

Thanks to Campus Compact for all that you have done over the years to nurture the campus service and service-learning movement. When we started at St. A's 15 years ago there was a feeling among some campuses that we were seeing higher education's latest 'flash in the pan.' Instead it was the beginning of a revolution of ideas and relationships, and you guys have been fueling us all the way."
