Kelly Cyr, a junior at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), is a student leader deeply committed to issues of animal rights and protection. Through the Baltimore Animal Rescue Care Shelter (BARCS), Kelly engages in direct service while also inspiring others to volunteer with this organization. For example, many members of UMBC’s Pre-Veterinary Society have become BARCS volunteers as a direct result of Kelly’s advocacy. Also, Kelly’s participation in LEADERShape, a local leadership development program, distinguishes her as a committed leader who is working to involve other students as change agents across the Baltimore region.
