Michael MacDonald is a second year biological science student at Northampton Community College. He is engaged in various forms of community outreach through his research in the sciences. Michael’s activities have included: research on invasive plants at a local state park, and the provision of remediation recommendations; founded and is president of the NCC Good Growers Club providing support to campus organizations and local schools through environmentally focused educational activities; assisted in the creation, development and building of Phase 1 of the NCC Community Garden which offers students, staff, faculty and community educational opportunities and sustainable alternatives for food production.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC.
