Phil Lucas, Lawrence Technological University, Michigan

Phil Lucas, a junior at Lawrence Technological University, is the founder and innovator of the campus-wide recycling initiative. Phil has worked tirelessly the past two years to mobilize the campus recycling efforts among students, staff, and administrators. He is also heavily involved in service learning with the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and is active in campus-wide volunteer programs including Make a Difference Day and LTU Day of Service.

I have always had a drive to serve others and work for the common good. But I never fully realized that I could go beyond volunteerism--that my opinion and hard work could influence policy decisions. My views changed when I sat in the office of one of my legislators in Washington, DC."

-Amanda Coffin, University of Maine at Farmington, Campus Compact student leader
